About This Workshop
In this workshop, youth begin with a drawing, symbol, or character and transform it into a finished sticker or decal. Participants use iPads and computers with design tools such as Procreate, Canva, GIMP, or Inkscape to refine their artwork, adjust layout, and prepare files for cutting.
Once designs are ready, youth learn how digital files become physical objects using Cricut machines, the Brother ScanNCut, and other cutters. Finished stickers may be laminated and taken home or used in future STEAM Futures projects, connecting digital creativity to tangible results.
What You’ll Learn & Do
Participants will:
- Create and refine digital artwork using illustration and design tools
- Prepare designs for cutting and print-and-cut workflows
- Operate digital cutting machines such as Cricut and ScanNCut
- Laminate and finish stickers and decals
Why this matters:
Digital design and cutting introduce youth to workflows used in product design, branding, manufacturing, and creative technology fields. Understanding how digital files translate into physical outputs supports later STEAM Futures workshops involving laser cutting, 3D printing, and media production.
STEAM Futures Media Moment
Youth will take part in the Mini Media Crew during the Screen to Sticker moment by capturing screen recordings and short clips of cutting machines in action. With permission, this footage may be included in the final STEAM Futures Community Showcase.
