Roots of Gratitude: Finding Our Community Gratitude Tree
Gratitude is one of the simplest yet most powerful practices we can share. It brings people together, shifts how we see the world, and creates space for connection even in busy lives. In this event, led by one of our youth leaders, we will gather as a community to explore the idea of gratitude and to identify our first local Gratitude Tree to serve as a living symbol where people can come, reflect, and share their thanks with others.
Why a Gratitude Tree
Many cultures and communities have long traditions of gathering around trees. They represent growth, resilience, and connection. By choosing a Gratitude Tree, we give ourselves a visible and welcoming space where anyone can stop, pause, and remember the things that matter most. Whether it is a note tied to a branch, a quiet moment shared with a friend, or simply standing in its shade, the tree becomes a living reminder that gratitude is always within reach.
What you will do
This two-hour session will begin with a conversation about what gratitude means to us as individuals and as a community. Together, we will talk about how noticing and naming our gratitude can change how we see everyday life. Then, guided by our youth leader, we will scout for a tree in a central, accessible location to serve as our first Gratitude Tree. Once identified, we will mark it and introduce simple ways for people to interact with it, such as writing messages, leaving small tokens, or simply visiting when they need a quiet space.
Why youth leadership matters
This project is being led by one of our youth leaders, highlighting the power of young voices in shaping how our community grows which has always been a foundational cornerstone for Project Imo. By creating and guiding this effort, our youth leader shows that gratitude is not just an individual act but something that can inspire others when shared. Their leadership reminds us that the next generation carries both the vision and the creativity to strengthen our community in new ways.
