Join us at The Idea Forge Creators Space on July 16 for another of our Weekly Wednesday Workshop series. We’ll host our “A Little Joy” a workshop featuring the Cricut Joy for making cards. This compact digital cutting machine is designed to make crafting more accessible, whether you’re a beginner or an experienced maker. In this session, participants will explore the tools, techniques, and creative potential of the Cricut Joy, all while creating a set of personalized custom cards to take home.
The workshop begins with a guided introduction to how the Cricut Joy works. We’ll explore the basic interface, material settings, and tips for clean cuts and efficient workflows. Participants will then get to choose from a variety of pre-designed card templates and walk through what is also available for customization for future designs. We’ll walk through how to load mats, align cardstock, and use Cricut pens and cutting blades for layered effects. If you’ve ever wanted to try your hand at modern cardmaking with professional-looking results, this workshop is a great place to start.
The focus of the session will be on producing meaningful, shareable cards, birthday, thank-you notes, encouragement messages, or just-for-fun designs. Along the way, you’ll learn how to mix fonts, incorporate graphics, and understand layering principles for multi-texture results.
Participants will leave the session with at least one completed card and possible more plus the skills to continue designing independently. This workshop is also a chance to familiarize yourself with Cricut software, opening the door to future projects like wall decals, custom stickers, iron-ons, and paper crafts.
In addition to the technical knowledge, this workshop places a strong emphasis on creativity as a form of wellness and joy. Taking time to craft something by hand especially something meant to uplift or connect with others can be a powerful, meditative experience. The act of choosing colors, experimenting with layout, and physically assembling your own creation brings a sense of accomplishment that few digital-only tasks can replicate.
Whether you’re coming solo or with a friend, you’ll enjoy a supportive, creative space where everyone is encouraged to ask questions, try new tools, and share ideas. All materials will be provided, including a wide range of cardstock, pre-cut elements, envelopes, and access to multiple Cricut Joy stations.
The Idea Forge Creators Space offers a welcoming environment for makers of all skill levels and backgrounds. No experience is required just bring your curiosity and a willingness to create.
