Tree-Lax and Unwind: A Nature Mindfulness Event
Take a deep breath, slow your pace, and give yourself the gift of stillness. Tree-Lax and Unwind is a gentle, two-hour experience at the Windham Outdoor Education Preserve designed to help you reconnect with nature and with yourself. Surrounded by the quiet of the trees, we will step away from the noise of everyday life and explore simple practices that invite calm, clarity, and presence.
Why mindfulness in nature matters
In our busy world, it is easy to move from one task to the next without ever pausing to notice the beauty that is around us. Spending time in nature with intention changes that. Research shows that time outdoors can lower stress, restore focus, and boost our sense of well-being. When paired with mindfulness, paying attention to the present moment without judgment, time in nature becomes even more powerful. It reminds us that we are part of a larger living system and that peace can be found in simple awareness.
What you will do
During this session, our trusty mindfulness guru Deb will guide participants through a series of light, accessible activities that draw on mindfulness, relaxation, and quiet observation. Together we will:
- Practice slow breathing and gentle grounding exercises beneath the trees.
- Take a mindful walk, noticing textures, sounds, and patterns in the natural world.
- Explore ways to use all of our senses, sight, sound, touch, and even smell to deepen awareness of place.
- Share reflections and simple practices that can be carried into daily life.
There is no yoga mat, no special equipment, and no prior experience required. This is about being present, curious, and kind to yourself in the company of nature.
What to bring
- Comfortable clothing suitable for walking and sitting outdoors.
- A water bottle and light snack if desired.
- A journal or notebook if you like to capture reflections.
- An open mind and willingness to slow down.
The setting
The preserve offers quiet trails, forest edges, and open spaces that create the perfect backdrop for mindfulness. The group will gather in a central meeting spot before setting out together. The pace will be slow and gentle, with plenty of time for sitting, noticing, and reflecting. Every part of the program is designed to meet you where you are even if this is your first mindfulness practice.
Who should join
This event is for anyone who feels called to pause, relax, and restore. Adults and older teens are welcome. You do not need experience with meditation or mindfulness, only a willingness to explore. If you are curious about ways to relieve stress, nurture creativity, or simply spend more intentional time outdoors, this program is for you.
What you will take away
- Simple mindfulness practices you can use at home, work, or on the trail.
- A refreshed sense of calm and connection with nature.
- Time spent with others who value slowing down and being present.
- Memories of a morning that nourishes both body and mind.
Tree-Lax and Unwind is more than a walk in the woods. It is an invitation to stop, breathe, and notice. Come ready to let go of distractions, welcome stillness, and discover the peace that trees and open skies can offer when we take the time to listen.
