Event Description

STEAM Futures Open Maker Space Hours

These open maker space hours are designed to support participants in the STEAM Futures Workshop Series by providing time and space to continue working on projects, practice new skills, and explore tools introduced during the workshops. This is an opportunity for youth to build confidence through hands-on making in a relaxed, self-directed environment.

Participants may work on a wide range of projects connected to the series, including plush creations, puppets and mini stages, mechanical builds, light-up circuits, digital designs, stickers, 3D prints, laser-cut pieces, and media projects. Youth are encouraged to bring unfinished work, try new variations, or simply spend time experimenting with materials and tools.

These sessions are not structured workshops. Staff will be present to supervise the space, ensure safe tool use, and offer guidance when needed, but projects are participant-led.

Who Can Attend

  • Youth ages 8–18 participating in the STEAM Futures Workshop Series
  • Youth ages 8–12 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian who remains on-site
  • Adults who have actively participated in any of the STEAM Futures Workshop Series

Cost

Free to youth participants thanks to support from the Liberty Bank Foundation.

Adults are welcome to attend at no cost and are invited to contribute, if they are able, to help make future programs accessible to the whole community.

About the STEAM Futures Workshop Series

STEAM Futures is a hands-on workshop series hosted at Project Imo’s Idea Forge Creators Space. Each session blends art, design, science, technology, and engineering through accessible, project-based learning. Youth explore tools such as sewing machines, digital cutters, 3D printers, and a laser engraver while building confidence as creative makers and problem-solvers. Participants may attend individual workshops or engage throughout the full series.
