Join us at The Idea Forge Creators Space on Wednesday, July 23 for
“Hooked: An Introduction to Crochet with Lori”
A hands-on, beginner-friendly workshop designed to help you discover the relaxing and creative world of crochet. Whether you’ve never picked up a hook before or you’re looking to brush off some rust and get back into fiber arts, this session is the perfect place to start.
Crocheting is a time-honored craft that blends technique, creativity, and mindfulness. In this welcoming workshop, you’ll learn the basic building blocks of crochet, including how to hold a hook, create a foundation chain, and master simple stitches. We’ll guide you step-by-step as you begin working on a small project such as a scarf, dishcloth, or decorative square that you can take home and continue developing.
All materials will be provided, including a variety of yarns, crochet hooks, and guided with visual references to help you along the way. If you have a special skein or personal tools you’d like to bring, you’re welcome to incorporate them into your project. We’ll also offer several yarn colors to choose from so you can personalize your creation.
The workshop is led by a local guest maker with years of crochet experience and a passion for teaching. They’ll share tips for avoiding common pitfalls, demonstrate how to fix mistakes, and offer insights into how crochet can become not just a hobby, but a creative outlet and form of self-care. Throughout the session, we’ll also talk about how crocheting connects to mental wellness, patience, and creative confidence — skills that extend well beyond yarn.
What you’ll learn:
-
How to start a crochet project from scratch
-
Basic stitches: chain, single, and double crochet
-
How to keep your rows straight and tension consistent
-
How to read simple crochet patterns
-
How different yarn weights and hook sizes affect your project
What you’ll walk away with:

A printed how-to reference guide

A crochet hook and yarn to keep practicing
-
The confidence to continue creating on your own
-
A relaxing, hands-on experience rooted in creativity
This is a relaxed, inclusive space where learning happens at your own pace — perfect for youth, teens, and adults. If you’ve ever watched someone crocheting and thought “I wish I knew how to do that,” this is your chance to jump in and try it in a low-pressure, supportive environment.
At The Idea Forge Creators Space, we believe in creating community through creativity. Our Weekly Wednesday Workshops are built to offer not just technical skills, but also connection, inspiration, and empowerment through making. “Hooked: An Introduction to Crochet” is part of our broader mission to make creative tools and techniques accessible to all, especially those just beginning their journey.
No prior experience is needed, and all materials are free to use during the workshop. Just bring your curiosity, your willingness to learn something new, and maybe a friend to stitch alongside you.
If you find yourself hooked — pun intended — this workshop will be the first of many opportunities to explore the fiber arts in our makerspace. So come loop into something new and see what you can create with just a strand of yarn and your own two hands.
We welcome a recommended donation of $5.00 for supplies. Snacks and drinks will also be available with a recommended donation.
