SUMMARY:Community Invasive Species Cleanup at the Preserve - Return of the Trail Crew
DESCRIPTION:Community Invasive Species Cleanup at the Preserve: Return of the Trail Crew\nEvery story needs a strong finish\, and this is ours. After starting downtown with A New Hope and then standing up to mugwort in The Mugwort Strikes Back\, we now head into the Windham Outdoor Education Preserve for the final part of our invasive species cleanup series. Return of the Trail Crew is where everything we’ve learned comes together in a space that shows both the challenges and the possibilities of caring for the land we share. \nWhy the preserve matters\nThe preserve is more than just trails and trees. It is a living classroom\, a gathering place\, and a glimpse of what healthy ecosystems can look like when they are supported and protected. But like the downtown spaces we’ve worked on\, the preserve is also under pressure. Invasive plants threaten to spread along the trails\, choke out native growth\, and weaken the biodiversity that makes this place so special. \nBy taking our cleanup efforts here\, we are stepping into a deeper level of stewardship. This is not just about tidying up. It is about actively restoring balance to an environment where birds\, pollinators\, and native plants depend on us to make space for them to thrive. \nWhat you’ll do\nWe will begin with a walk through the preserve to identify invasive species in a natural setting. You’ll see how they spread along the trails and into the understory\, and you’ll learn how to recognize them in the middle of a forest environment rather than a sidewalk crack or downtown lot. From there\, we’ll spend time on hands-on removal\, focusing on key areas where invasives threaten to push out native plants. \nWorking in the preserve brings its own rewards. Every patch we clear opens the door for healthier growth and improves the experience for future visitors. You’ll leave with a sense of how small\, steady actions make a visible difference in larger natural spaces. \nBuilding on the series\nReturn of the Trail Crew is the final chapter in our three-part series on combating invasive species. Together we have raised awareness\, practiced identification\, and taken action downtown. We’ve faced one of the most stubborn plants in our area with persistence and teamwork. Now\, in this last event\, we bring that knowledge into the preserve\, where the work connects directly to the future of our trails and outdoor education efforts. \nYou don’t need to have attended the first two events to join this one\, but if you did\, this is your chance to put everything you’ve learned into action. And even if this is your first time\, you’ll be part of something that is bigger than one cleanup. You’ll be contributing to a series of steps that show what is possible when a community commits to restoring its natural spaces. \nWhat you’ll take away\nBy the end of the event\, you’ll leave with: \n\nThe ability to identify invasives in both urban and natural settings.\nHands-on experience in trail and preserve stewardship.\nA deeper connection to the preserve as a shared community resource.\nThe satisfaction of knowing you’ve helped make space for native species to return.\n\nWhy it matters\nRestoring balance is a long-term project. Invasives will not disappear overnight\, but every effort makes the preserve stronger. Each person who shows up adds to the collective power of our community to care for the land. When we return to hike\, bike\, or simply walk the trails\, we’ll know we played a part in making them healthier. \nReturn of the Trail Crew is more than the end of a series. It is a reminder that stewardship is ongoing and that by working together\, we can leave behind a legacy of care for those who come after us.

SUMMARY:Rembrandt with Rocks: Rock painting at the Idea Forge
DESCRIPTION:Rembrandt with Rocks: Rock Painting at the Idea Forge\nBring out your inner artist and join us for an afternoon of creativity and community. Rembrandt with Rocks is a playful workshop where we will transform simple stones into painted works of art. Hosted at the Idea Forge at Base Camp\, this event is designed for all skill levels and is as much about self-expression and fun as it is about technique. Whether you are an experienced painter or someone who has not picked up a brush in years\, you will find a welcoming space to explore your creativity. \nWhy rock painting\nPainting rocks is simple\, approachable\, and surprisingly meaningful. Each stone has its own shape and character\, and when given a splash of color or a thoughtful design\, it becomes something special. Painted rocks can brighten a garden\, become small gifts to share\, or take part in community traditions like rock hunts\, where people leave painted stones in public spaces for others to discover. By participating\, you are not just making art\, you are creating connections and adding joy to the places around you. \nWhat you will do\nIn this two-hour session\, we will move participants through the basics of rock painting\, from selecting and preparing stones to choosing colors\, patterns\, and themes. You will experiment with different brushes and techniques\, try out simple designs\, and\, if you like\, add words or images that carry a personal message. By the end of the workshop\, you will have painted rocks to take home and the option to contribute to a new community rock hunt project launching as part of our Environmental Impact Program experiences. \nWhat to bring\n\nComfortable clothes that you do not mind getting a little paint on.\nYour creativity and ideas\, a few stencils and some inspiration will be provided.\nOptional: small\, smooth rocks you would like to paint. A supply will be provided as well.\n\nThe setting\nThe Idea Forge Creators Space provides a relaxed and creative environment for this workshop. Tables\, supplies\, and materials will be set up to make it easy for everyone to dive in. The atmosphere will be casual and social\, with space for conversation and laughter while painting. \nWho should join\nThis event is open to anyone who enjoys making things by hand or wants to try something new. Families\, individuals\, and groups of friends are welcome. Children are encouraged to participate with an adult’s support. No previous painting experience is necessary\, this is about having fun and expressing yourself. \nThe Takeaway\n\nFinished painted rocks you can keep\, share\, or hide for others to find.\nSimple painting techniques you can use for future creative projects.\nParticipation in a community rock hunt that connects neighbors in a playful way.\nThe joy of spending time in a creative\, supportive setting.\n\nRembrandt with Rocks is more than an art activity. It is a chance to slow down\, create something tangible\, and share that creativity with others. Join us at Base Camp in the Idea Forge and see what happens when imagination meets something as simple as a stone. \nThis is a “Pay what you can” program with a range of ticket prices. All tickets include supplies and a snack.

SUMMARY:Roots of Gratitude: Finding Our Community Gratitude Tree
DESCRIPTION:Roots of Gratitude: Finding Our Community Gratitude Tree\nGratitude is one of the simplest yet most powerful practices we can share. It brings people together\, shifts how we see the world\, and creates space for connection even in busy lives. In this event\, led by one of our youth leaders\, we will gather as a community to explore the idea of gratitude and to identify our first local Gratitude Tree to serve as a living symbol where people can come\, reflect\, and share their thanks with others. \nWhy a Gratitude Tree\nMany cultures and communities have long traditions of gathering around trees. They represent growth\, resilience\, and connection. By choosing a Gratitude Tree\, we give ourselves a visible and welcoming space where anyone can stop\, pause\, and remember the things that matter most. Whether it is a note tied to a branch\, a quiet moment shared with a friend\, or simply standing in its shade\, the tree becomes a living reminder that gratitude is always within reach. \nWhat you will do\nThis two-hour session will begin with a conversation about what gratitude means to us as individuals and as a community. Together\, we will talk about how noticing and naming our gratitude can change how we see everyday life. Then\, guided by our youth leader\, we will scout for a tree in a central\, accessible location to serve as our first Gratitude Tree. Once identified\, we will mark it and introduce simple ways for people to interact with it\, such as writing messages\, leaving small tokens\, or simply visiting when they need a quiet space. \nWhy youth leadership matters\nThis project is being led by one of our youth leaders\, highlighting the power of young voices in shaping how our community grows which has always been a foundational cornerstone for Project Imo. By creating and guiding this effort\, our youth leader shows that gratitude is not just an individual act but something that can inspire others when shared. Their leadership reminds us that the next generation carries both the vision and the creativity to strengthen our community in new ways. \nWhat to bring\n\nComfortable walking shoes for exploring nearby spaces.\nWeather-appropriate clothing.\nA notebook\, pen\, or small slips of paper if you would like to create your first gratitude message.\nAn open mind and willingness to share in conversation.\n\nWho should join\nThis program is for anyone who wants to connect more deeply with gratitude and community. Families\, individuals\, and groups are all welcome. You do not need prior experience with mindfulness or reflection. The only requirement is an interest in creating something lasting that others can enjoy. \nWhat you will take away\n\nA shared sense of what gratitude means in your daily life.\nThe experience of helping select and dedicate our community’s first Gratitude Tree.\nNew ways to practice gratitude at home and in shared spaces.\nInspiration from a youth-led project that will continue to grow beyond the event.\n\nRoots of Gratitude is about more than identifying a tree. It is about planting the idea that gratitude has roots\, branches\, and room to grow. Join us as we create a new tradition and give our community a place to gather\, reflect\, and share thanks for years to come.

SUMMARY:Little House for Birdies: Miniature Birdhouse Painting
DESCRIPTION:Little House for Birdies: Miniature Birdhouse Painting\nCelebrate creativity\, nature\, and community in this hands-on workshop where we will paint miniature birdhouses inspired by Connecticut’s native bird species. This program blends art and ecology\, giving participants the chance to decorate a birdhouse while also learning more about the birds that call the local area home. It is a relaxed\, family-friendly event where imagination takes flight and every brushstroke adds to our shared appreciation of the natural world. \nWhy birdhouses\nBirdhouses are more than decorative pieces. They remind us of the birds that live alongside us and the habitats they need to thrive. By painting and personalizing these miniature houses\, we bring awareness to the beauty and diversity of local bird species while also creating something joyful to display at home\, in a garden\, or as a gift especially since this lands right near some holidays. Each birdhouse tells its own story\, reflecting the personality of its creator while sparking conversations about the role birds play in healthy ecosystems. \nWhat you will do\nIn this two-hour session\, Jay will guide participants through the painting process. You will start by choosing a birdhouse and selecting colors and designs. As you paint\, you will also learn about some of Connecticut’s native birds\, what they look like\, what they eat\, and how they interact with their environments. The workshop will encourage creative freedom\, whether you choose realistic designs based on native species or imaginative\, playful patterns that bring your birdhouse to life. \nWhat to bring\n\nComfortable clothes that you do not mind getting paint on.\nYour creativity and any design ideas you want to try.\nOptional: photos or references of your favorite local birds.\n\nAll painting supplies and birdhouses will be provided\, so you can focus on enjoying the process. \nThe setting\nThe Idea Forge Creators Space provides a welcoming creative space where participants can paint\, share ideas\, and learn together. Tables and supplies will be set up to make the process easy and fun. The atmosphere will be relaxed\, with plenty of room for conversation and laughter as everyone brings their birdhouse to life. \nWho should join\nThis program is open to all ages and skill levels. Families\, individuals\, and groups of friends are encouraged to participate. Children are welcome with adult support. You do not need prior experience with painting as this workshop is about creativity\, fun\, and community connection. \nWhat you will take away\n\nA painted miniature birdhouse to keep or share.\nNew knowledge about Connecticut’s native bird species.\nSimple painting techniques that you can use in future projects.\nMemories of a colorful\, creative experience spent with others.\n\nLittle House for Birdies is more than a craft project. It is a celebration of imagination\, community\, and the feathered friends who brighten our skies. Join us for an afternoon of painting\, learning\, and fun as we create birdhouses that reflect both our creativity and our connection to nature.

Sessions will be from 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm every Wednesday!   \nPlot:  \nYou live in a world in which every creature is born to an ancient technological facility called ‘The Life Room’. The last remnant of a civilization mysteriously wiped from the planet\, a being known as ‘The Life Mother’ is suspended in the center of this enormous room of wires and beeping machines.  \nYou are among the last batch that The Life Mother has the strength to create. With a little added boost from her determination to see her world continue\, you are special.  \nYou must find the last ‘source’ being compatible with the life room before The Life Mother passes and life as it exists changes forever.
