DESCRIPTION:STEAM Futures Open Maker Space Hours\nThese open maker space hours are designed to support participants in the STEAM Futures Workshop Series by providing time and space to continue working on projects\, practice new skills\, and explore tools introduced during the workshops. This is an opportunity for youth to build confidence through hands-on making in a relaxed\, self-directed environment. \nParticipants may work on a wide range of projects connected to the series\, including plush creations\, puppets and mini stages\, mechanical builds\, light-up circuits\, digital designs\, stickers\, 3D prints\, laser-cut pieces\, and media projects. Youth are encouraged to bring unfinished work\, try new variations\, or simply spend time experimenting with materials and tools. \nThese sessions are not structured workshops. Designed for beginner digital artists with some illustration background or intermediate users of digital design software\, this session walks step-by-step through how illustrators see\, simplify\, and construct characters from reference to finished color. \nParticipants will work in Procreate on iPads\, using Apple Pencil or compatible stylus tools. Project Imo will provide four iPad Pro devices for participants who do not have their own. DESCRIPTION:About This Workshop\nIn this capstone workshop\, youth create small moving projects using either simple mechanical linkages or low-voltage DC motors and battery packs. Builds may wobble\, spin\, wave\, or animate characters and props created in earlier STEAM Futures workshops\, allowing participants to revisit and extend past work in new ways. \nThe second half of the session focuses on Media Magic. Youth learn how to document their projects by recording short demo clips using cameras and audio equipment. Participants experiment with voiceovers\, sound effects\, and simple edits to produce 10–20 second videos that highlight motion\, creativity\, and process. These clips will be featured in the STEAM Futures Community Showcase. \n\nWhat You’ll Learn & Do\nParticipants will: \n\nBuild or adapt moving creations using basic mechanics or hobby motors\nExperiment with motion\, balance\, and repetition in physical builds\nPlan a short demo clip to showcase how their project works\nRecord simple voiceovers and sound effects\nAssemble short videos using pre-built editing templates\n\nWhy this matters:\nMotion and media bring ideas to life.
