SUMMARY:Hooked: An Introduction to Crochet
DESCRIPTION:Join us at The Idea Forge Creators Space on Wednesday\, July 23 for \n“Hooked: An Introduction to Crochet with Lori”\nA hands-on\, beginner-friendly workshop designed to help you discover the relaxing and creative world of crochet. Whether you’ve never picked up a hook before or you’re looking to brush off some rust and get back into fiber arts\, this session is the perfect place to start. \nCrocheting is a time-honored craft that blends technique\, creativity\, and mindfulness. In this welcoming workshop\, you’ll learn the basic building blocks of crochet\, including how to hold a hook\, create a foundation chain\, and master simple stitches. We’ll guide you step-by-step as you begin working on a small project such as a scarf\, dishcloth\, or decorative square that you can take home and continue developing. \nAll materials will be provided\, including a variety of yarns\, crochet hooks\, and guided with visual references to help you along the way. If you have a special skein or personal tools you’d like to bring\, you’re welcome to incorporate them into your project. We’ll also offer several yarn colors to choose from so you can personalize your creation. \nThe workshop is led by a local guest maker with years of crochet experience and a passion for teaching. They’ll share tips for avoiding common pitfalls\, demonstrate how to fix mistakes\, and offer insights into how crochet can become not just a hobby\, but a creative outlet and form of self-care. Throughout the session\, we’ll also talk about how crocheting connects to mental wellness\, patience\, and creative confidence — skills that extend well beyond yarn. \nWhat you’ll learn: \n\n\nHow to start a crochet project from scratch \n\n\nBasic stitches: chain\, single\, and double crochet \n\n\nHow to keep your rows straight and tension consistent \n\n\nHow to read simple crochet patterns \n\n\nHow different yarn weights and hook sizes affect your project \n\n\nWhat you’ll walk away with: \n\n\nA small project started (and possibly finished!) \n\n\nA printed how-to reference guide \n\n\nA crochet hook and yarn to keep practicing \n\n\nThe confidence to continue creating on your own \n\n\nA relaxing\, hands-on experience rooted in creativity \n\n\nThis is a relaxed\, inclusive space where learning happens at your own pace — perfect for youth\, teens\, and adults. If you’ve ever watched someone crocheting and thought “I wish I knew how to do that\,” this is your chance to jump in and try it in a low-pressure\, supportive environment. \nAt The Idea Forge Creators Space\, we believe in creating community through creativity. Our Weekly Wednesday Workshops are built to offer not just technical skills\, but also connection\, inspiration\, and empowerment through making. “Hooked: An Introduction to Crochet” is part of our broader mission to make creative tools and techniques accessible to all\, especially those just beginning their journey. \nNo prior experience is needed\, and all materials are free to use during the workshop. Just bring your curiosity\, your willingness to learn something new\, and maybe a friend to stitch alongside you. \nIf you find yourself hooked — pun intended — this workshop will be the first of many opportunities to explore the fiber arts in our makerspace. So come loop into something new and see what you can create with just a strand of yarn and your own two hands. \nWe welcome a recommended donation of $5.00 for supplies. Snacks and drinks will also be available with a recommended donation.

SUMMARY:A Little Joy Making Cards with A Cricut
DESCRIPTION:Join us at The Idea Forge Creators Space on July 16 for another of our Weekly Wednesday Workshop series. We’ll host our “A Little Joy” a workshop featuring the Cricut Joy for making cards. This compact digital cutting machine is designed to make crafting more accessible\, whether you’re a beginner or an experienced maker. In this session\, participants will explore the tools\, techniques\, and creative potential of the Cricut Joy\, all while creating a set of personalized custom cards to take home. \nThe workshop begins with a guided introduction to how the Cricut Joy works. We’ll explore the basic interface\, material settings\, and tips for clean cuts and efficient workflows. Participants will then get to choose from a variety of pre-designed card templates and walk through what is also available for customization for future designs. We’ll walk through how to load mats\, align cardstock\, and use Cricut pens and cutting blades for layered effects. If you’ve ever wanted to try your hand at modern cardmaking with professional-looking results\, this workshop is a great place to start. \nThe focus of the session will be on producing meaningful\, shareable cards\, birthday\, thank-you notes\, encouragement messages\, or just-for-fun designs. Along the way\, you’ll learn how to mix fonts\, incorporate graphics\, and understand layering principles for multi-texture results. \nParticipants will leave the session with at least one completed card and possible more plus the skills to continue designing independently. This workshop is also a chance to familiarize yourself with Cricut software\, opening the door to future projects like wall decals\, custom stickers\, iron-ons\, and paper crafts. \nIn addition to the technical knowledge\, this workshop places a strong emphasis on creativity as a form of wellness and joy. Taking time to craft something by hand especially something meant to uplift or connect with others can be a powerful\, meditative experience. The act of choosing colors\, experimenting with layout\, and physically assembling your own creation brings a sense of accomplishment that few digital-only tasks can replicate. \nWhether you’re coming solo or with a friend\, you’ll enjoy a supportive\, creative space where everyone is encouraged to ask questions\, try new tools\, and share ideas. All materials will be provided\, including a wide range of cardstock\, pre-cut elements\, envelopes\, and access to multiple Cricut Joy stations. \nThe Idea Forge Creators Space offers a welcoming environment for makers of all skill levels and backgrounds. No experience is required just bring your curiosity and a willingness to create.

SUMMARY:Such a Character: Intro to Quick Character Illustration and Design
DESCRIPTION:Character Illustration for everyone! \nEver wanted to bring your own character to life—but felt like you “can’t draw”? This is the workshop for you. Such a Character is a playful\, beginner-friendly introduction to character design where absolutely no drawing experience is required. We’ll show you how to create expressive\, fun characters using simple shapes\, imagination\, and a few creative tricks. If you can doodle a smiley face\, you can design a whole cast of characters! \nDesigned for all ages and skill levels\, this workshop is a great way to explore your creative side without pressure or perfection. You’ll leave with a character that’s uniquely yours—and the confidence to keep creating. Whether you’re a curious kid\, a supportive parent\, or an adult rediscovering your inner artist\, come discover just how fun and freeing it is to draw. EVERYONE can draw. Let’s prove it together. \nThis workshop will use basic pencil\, pen\, and marker skills on paper (totally Old School… we know). It will be a great foundation for further growth and a perfect lead-in to our 12-hour  “Introduction to Illustration Workshop Series” launching this fall through our Idea Forge Creators Space. \nSuggested materials donation $5.00\, snacks and drinks available for a suggested donation as well. \nWe hope this draws your attention!!!! \nSee you there!
