Whether you’re a total beginner or a crafty enthusiast looking to learn more\, this session is packed with tools\, techniques\, and takeaways for all experience levels. \nWhat You’ll Learn:\nDesign Basics:\nStart with an image\, logo\, phrase\, or sketch\, yours or one we provide\, and learn how to prepare it for printing and cutting. We’ll cover tools like GIMP and Photoshop\, with step-by-step process on proper sizing\, spacing\, layout\, and file setup so your design cuts clean and looks professional. We can even sneak in a little way to use Canva to get the job done too. \nMaterials Matter:\nLearn the difference between glossy\, matte\, and waterproof vinyl; clear vs. white base materials; and how to choose the right magnet thickness and backing for your project. DESCRIPTION:Join the Youth Leadership Council for a dynamic two-day Youth Leadership Summit on June 30 and July 1\, 2025\, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM each day. Open to area youth ages 13–18 and any member of the Windham Prevention Coalition Youth Leadership Council\, this summit brings together emerging leaders for an engaging experience packed with team building\, outdoor challenges\, and real-world leadership practice. Designed specifically for members of the Youth Leadership Council\, the event will empower participants through youth-led problem-solving dialogues\, high-energy group activities\, and skill-building sessions that inspire confidence and community action. \nHosted at Project Imo’s Base Camp in Willimantic\, the summit begins each morning with check-in and group activities before heading out for weather-permitting outdoor initiatives. Rain or shine\, we’ll be in action—though hazardous weather will result in cancellation. Lunch is included both days\, and participants should come dressed to move\, think\, and lead. \nQuick Details: \n\nDates: June 30 & July 1\, 2025\nTime: 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM each day\nLocation: Base Camp\, Willimantic\, CT\nLunch provided both days.\nSeats are limited so register early. \nPriority is given to members of the YLC and people who can attend both dates.\nOutdoor activities (weather permitting)\, short walk from Base Camp.\nActivities include:\n\nTeam-building initiatives\nYouth-led leadership challenges\nCommunication & problem-solving games\nStrategy-building workshops\nReflective group dialogues\n\n\n\n  \nParents with youth not currently members of Project Imo’s Base Camp Teen Center will need to sign program release forms which will be sent out after accepted registration. DESCRIPTION:Join us at The Idea Forge Creators Space for “Beads for the Preserve\,” a hands-on jewelry-making workshop where creativity meets community impact. \nThis Nature-Inspired Jewelry Workshop:\nIs part of our Weekly Wednesday Workshop series\, this session invites participants to design and create custom bracelets and earrings using our wide collection of beads\, wires\, charms\, and natural elements all inspired by the colors\, textures\, and shapes found in the natural world around us. \nIn this workshop\, you’ll explore the fundamentals of handmade jewelry design\, with guidance on basic techniques such as bead stringing\, layout planning\, color matching\, wire wrapping\, and clasp attachment. Whether you’re brand new to jewelry-making or just looking to practice and refine your craft\, this session will provide the structure\, tools\, and encouragement to create unique\, wearable art. \nThe theme of this event is rooted in nature-inspired design and giving back. Many of the beads and elements available reflect earthy tones and organic shapes\, think wood grains\, stone textures\, greens\, golds\, and natural patterns. You’ll be encouraged to draw from personal experiences\, memories of outdoor spaces\, or local landscapes to shape your design choices. \nIn addition to exploring self-expression through jewelry\, this workshop provides an opportunity to support a greater cause. Some of the pieces created during this event will be offered up during Willimantic’s Third Thursday Street Festival as part of a community donation initiative. All proceeds raised will go toward the continued development of a local Windham Outdoor Education Preserve we are actively supporting down the road from our Idea Forge Creators Space. \nThis means that while you will walk away with at least one custom piece to keep\, you’ll also have the opportunity to help craft some items we can add to our option as Third Thursday which is a a powerful way to turn creativity into real-world impact. It’s art with purpose\, and every bead helps. \nWhat to expect: \n\n\nA welcoming\, creative space led by our staff \n\n\nAccess to a wide selection of beading materials\, charms\, wire\, tools\, and supplies \n\n\nInstruction in layout design\, crimping\, fastening\, and finishing \n\n\nGentle guidance storytelling through design \n\n\nThe chance to contribute to our environmental stewardship efforts while crafting something beautiful \n\n\nNo prior experience is required\, this workshop is designed to be accessible and enjoyable for all skill levels\, including complete beginners. We encourage participants of all ages to come as they are\, meet fellow creatives\, and explore what it means to make something with heart. \nAll tools and materials will be provided.
