SUMMARY:Roots of Gratitude: Finding Our Community Gratitude Tree
DESCRIPTION:Roots of Gratitude: Finding Our Community Gratitude Tree\nGratitude is one of the simplest yet most powerful practices we can share. It brings people together\, shifts how we see the world\, and creates space for connection even in busy lives. In this event\, led by one of our youth leaders\, we will gather as a community to explore the idea of gratitude and to identify our first local Gratitude Tree to serve as a living symbol where people can come\, reflect\, and share their thanks with others. \nWhy a Gratitude Tree\nMany cultures and communities have long traditions of gathering around trees. They represent growth\, resilience\, and connection. By choosing a Gratitude Tree\, we give ourselves a visible and welcoming space where anyone can stop\, pause\, and remember the things that matter most. Whether it is a note tied to a branch\, a quiet moment shared with a friend\, or simply standing in its shade\, the tree becomes a living reminder that gratitude is always within reach. \nWhat you will do\nThis two-hour session will begin with a conversation about what gratitude means to us as individuals and as a community. Together\, we will talk about how noticing and naming our gratitude can change how we see everyday life. Then\, guided by our youth leader\, we will scout for a tree in a central\, accessible location to serve as our first Gratitude Tree. Once identified\, we will mark it and introduce simple ways for people to interact with it\, such as writing messages\, leaving small tokens\, or simply visiting when they need a quiet space. \nWhy youth leadership matters\nThis project is being led by one of our youth leaders\, highlighting the power of young voices in shaping how our community grows which has always been a foundational cornerstone for Project Imo. By creating and guiding this effort\, our youth leader shows that gratitude is not just an individual act but something that can inspire others when shared. Their leadership reminds us that the next generation carries both the vision and the creativity to strengthen our community in new ways. \nWhat to bring\n\nComfortable walking shoes for exploring nearby spaces.\nWeather-appropriate clothing.\nA notebook\, pen\, or small slips of paper if you would like to create your first gratitude message.\nAn open mind and willingness to share in conversation.\n\nWho should join\nThis program is for anyone who wants to connect more deeply with gratitude and community. Families\, individuals\, and groups are all welcome. You do not need prior experience with mindfulness or reflection. The only requirement is an interest in creating something lasting that others can enjoy. \nWhat you will take away\n\nA shared sense of what gratitude means in your daily life.\nThe experience of helping select and dedicate our community’s first Gratitude Tree.\nNew ways to practice gratitude at home and in shared spaces.\nInspiration from a youth-led project that will continue to grow beyond the event.\n\nRoots of Gratitude is about more than identifying a tree. It is about planting the idea that gratitude has roots\, branches\, and room to grow. Join us as we create a new tradition and give our community a place to gather\, reflect\, and share thanks for years to come.

That year 365 children received toys\, last year over 2\,000 children received toys. Each year\, starting September through December\, we collect and distribute toys to ensure every child in our community experiences the magic of the holidays\, regardless of financial hardship. \nDuring the years we have become more than a holiday toys drive. CARES has helped hurricane victims in Puerto Rico\, collected water bottles for children returning to school after covid\, set up the first mask distribution during Covid\, gift cards for federal employees shut out of their jobs during a government shutdown\, raised funds to send Barrows students to a science competition out of state\, collected food for the local Soup Kitchen and raised funds to help a police officers family during a medical process. \nThrough the generosity of donors and volunteers\, we help create lasting memories and strengthen the spirit of care and unity in Windham / Willimantic”. \n  \n \nLINKED- Town of Windham\n“Autism Safety Project builds trust and understanding between first responders and the Autism/special needs community in Windham / Willimantic. Through voluntary registration\, families provide individualized information that helps police and fire personnel create safe\, personalized response plans. With sensory packs\, communication tools\, and specialized training\, the LINKED- Town of Windham program ensures every emergency response is compassionate\, informed\, and inclusive” \n \nInterested in Special Sponsorship? \nAre you or your organization looking to celebrate the 2025 season with special impact?
