SUMMARY:Turning Leaves Turning Wheels - A fall foliage cycling ride
DESCRIPTION:Turning Leaves Turning Wheels: A Fall Foliage Cycling Ride\nCelebrate the beauty of autumn with a group cycling ride along the Airline State Park Trail. Starting at Base Camp\, we will ride east toward North Windham\, taking in the changing colors of the season and making time to enjoy the wetlands and forest edges along the way. This event combines the joy of cycling with the simple pleasure of noticing fall unfold around us. \nWhat makes this ride special?\nFall is one of the most rewarding times to be outside in New England. The air is crisp\, the light is golden\, and the landscape is painted in reds\, oranges\, and yellows. On a bike\, you can take in more of this beauty at a comfortable pace while still being close enough to notice the small details. Turning Leaves\, Turning Wheels is designed to be both active and reflective\, giving participants the chance to move their bodies and refresh their spirits in the middle of the season. \nThe route\nWe will depart from Base Camp and follow the Airline State Park Trail east. The path is mostly flat and well maintained\, making it approachable for a wide range of riders. Our destination is North Windham\, with a possible planned stop at the bog near the Natchaug River and if time is available spend a little time to explore the Outdoor Education Preserve. This section of the trail is especially scenic in autumn and offers a mix of forest canopy\, open views\, and waterways that reflect the colors of the leaves. \nWhat to bring\n\nA bike that is tuned and ready for a three-hour ride.\nA properly fitted helmet. Helmets are required for all participants.\nWater and a snack to enjoy during a stop along the route.\nClothing suitable for fall temperatures and light wind.\nOptional: a camera or phone to capture the foliage and trail views.\n\nA limited number of bikes may be available upon request. Please let us know at registration if you would like to borrow one so we can confirm availability in advance. \nHow we will ride\nThe focus of this outing is enjoyment\, not speed. We will ride at a steady\, moderate pace that allows conversation and appreciation of the scenery. Stops will be built into the ride to regroup\, take in the views\, and look for birds and other wildlife along the trail. Riders should feel comfortable on a multiuse trail and be prepared to ride single file when others are present. \nRiders should have general cycling skills to stay balanced and maintain an average 7MPH pace on a casual ride with stops. \nWho should join\nThis event is ideal for adults and older teens with basic cycling skills who want to enjoy a seasonal ride with others. You do not need to be a competitive cyclist. If you are able to ride comfortably on packed surfaces for several hours\, you will be right at home on this trip. Families with experienced teen riders are welcome. \nWhat you will take away\n\nA memorable autumn experience in the heart of New England scenery.\nA deeper appreciation for the Airline trail and the Outdoor Education Preserve.\nNew connections with fellow cyclists and nature enthusiasts.\nThe feeling of renewal that comes from fresh air\, movement\, and time outdoors.\n\nTurning Leaves\, Turning Wheels is about more than cycling. It is about noticing the turning of the season\, sharing the trail with others\, and celebrating the simple joy of fall in motion. Join us for a ride that blends the beauty of the outdoors with the community spirit of moving together. \nThis event is a “pay what you can event” with a range of tickets. Each ticket includes admission and a snack.
